Genvoya is used to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in adults and children age 12 and older.

Genvoya is a combination of elvitegravir, cobicistat, emtricitabine, and tenofovir, and it is in a class of medications called antivirals. Elvitegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir work by decreasing the amount of HIV in the blood, and cobicistat helps to keep elvitegravir in the body longer so that the drug will have a greater effect.

Gevoya is a four-drug fixed dose combination drug containing 150 mg of elvitegravir, 150 mg of cobicistat, 200 mg of emtricitabine, and 10 mg of tenofovir alafenamide (TAF). The recommended dose is one Genvoya tablet once daily for the treatment of HIV infection.

Genvoya can cause serious side effects such as serious liver problems, worsening of hepatitis B (HBV) infection, and a buildup of acid in you blood (lactic acidosis). Talk with your doctor about the risks involved with taking this drug. Do not take this drug if you are taking St. John’s wort, any other medications to treat HIV-1 infection, and certain prescription medications for other conditions. Ask your doctor about other medicines that should not be taken with Genvoya.

This may not be a complete list of warnings. Consult with your doctor regarding possible risks associated with taking this medication, and refer to the warning label on your medication for more information.
