Moxeza kills the bacteria that invade the eye and replicate. It works only against certain strains of bacteria, particularly staphylococcus and streptococcus, which have an affinity for infecting eyes, ears, nose, and throat. The eye drops are only used for fighting infection in the eyes.
Moxeza comes in an eyedropper form for administration. Shake the bottle before use to ensure that the medicine is mixed. Tilt your head back slightly and pull the lower eyelid down. Hold the dropper with the open end down above the eye. Look away from the dropper, then squeeze one drop out and close the eye. Seal the tear duct by applying pressure for about 60 seconds to the inside corner of the eye close to the nose. The tip of the eyedropper is sterile, so do not allow it to touch your hands or any surfaces.
Do not wear contact lenses if you have signs of bacterial conjunctivitis, as the lenses may cause microscopic damage to the eye that can exacerbate the symptoms of infection. If you wear contact lenses regularly, ask your doctor if it is okay to wear them during Moxeza treatment.
