This medication is used to help treat BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) in men who have difficulty urinating due to their condition.
The prescription drug Rapaflo is only available in capsules which should not be opened or chewed. It's normally prescribed as 8mg (one pill) taken daily with food; however, patients with certain needs may be prescribed 4mg daily instead.
Women and children should not take this medication. Do not use Rapaflo if you have severe kidney or liver disease, or if you are already taking similar medications, including alfuzosin, prazosin, or terazosin. Certain antibiotics, antifungals, antivirals, and other heart medications can conflict with this drug as well. You may not be able to take this medication if you have low blood pressure, have or have had prostate cancer or heart disease, are on a low sodium diet, are taking a diuretic, or are on dialysis. Rapaflo can cause dizziness and fainting, especially if you're standing for long periods of time or if you become overheated due to hot weather or exercise. It may affect your pupils during cataract surgery, so inform your surgeon that you're taking this medication.
