Veramyst is a prescription drug that's only available as a nasal spray, and it's administered in 27.5 mcg per spray. Depending on the severity of the allergies being treated, it's usually administered as one or two sprays per nostril.
Because steroids can affect children's growth, do not administer this medication to children under the age of 2 years. Also, talk to your doctor before using this medication while pregnant or breastfeeding. You may not be able to use this medication if you have recently had surgery on your nose or experienced injury to your nose. Because this medication can lower your body's ability to fight infection, tell your doctor if you're taking HIV medications or other immunosuppressants; you may also need to take steps to limit your exposure to TB, chicken pox or measles, as they may be deadly. This medication can also increase blood-glucose levels, so talk to your doctor if you have diabetes. You may not be able to take this medication if you're utilizing any other steroidal medications. Talk to your doctor if you have or have a history of: glaucoma, cataracts, liver disease or disorder, herpes simplex virus of the eye, or sores or ulcers inside your nose.
