Zanaflex capsules are taken orally once per day. Your doctor will give you specific instructions as to if the capsules should be taken with or without food.

Zanaflex capsules are swallowed whole or opened and sprinkled onto soft food. The effects of the two ways of taking the medication will be different. Talk to your doctor for instructions on your specific condition.

Zanaflex capsules and tablets work differently from each other and cannot be substituted one for the other.

Your doctor will generally start you on a lower dose of Zanaflex and gradually increase it.

Tell your doctor about all of your allergies and about all other prescription and non-prescription medications, supplements, and vitamins that you are taking. Be sure to mention if you are taking acyclovir, amiodarone, baclofen, cimetidine, clonidine, dantrolene, diazepam, famotidine, medications for anxiety, seizures, or high blood pressure, mexiletine, oral contraceptives, propafenone, fluoroquinolones, ticlopidine, sedatives or sleeping pills, verapamil or zileuton.

Tell your doctor if you are taking ciprofloxacin, he or she will probably tell you not to take Zanaflex.

This medication may cause drowsiness. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how Zanaflex affects you. Consuming alcohol worsens effects of drowsiness.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Side effects may include: drowsiness, depression, dizziness, nervousness, tingling in the hands or feet , nausea or vomiting, stomach pain, heartburn, rash, sweating, back pain, constipation or diarrhea.

Call your doctor immediately if you experience: extreme tiredness, unusual bruising or bleeding, loss of appetite, symptoms of liver problems, slow heartbeat, changes in vision.
